A news report can still be called a story
Not all stories conversely are news, or newsworthy.
Ultimately, the creative writer vs. the journalist will not serve the same purpose to their reader. That is not to say that the reader cannot be the same person.
Much like the diversity of our country, what people read is based on what they like, what they want to know what their interests are, what seems like it might impact them the most.
What will inform? What will educate? Will you read something today that teaches you something new? …
